We are seeking an exceptional Lead Environmental Artist. We feel that the quality and scale of our project requires a unique artistic sensibility. We are looking for someone that seeks excellence in their artistic endeavours, but also someone that understands the technical challenges of today’s games industry.
Architectural, technical and artistic skills will be an asset for this position, but most of all you will have a passion and drive for creating work that pushes the boundaries of current game design.
Main duties and responsibilities:
The successful applicant must:
• Have 3 years minimum in the Video Game industry with an understanding of Real time Graphics issues.
• Understand Art work flows with the ability to modify and improve them.
• Ability to interpret the Art director’s vision and communicate that to the rest of the team.
• Have a great understanding of the aesthetics of environment, function vs. form relationships, as well as what makes a game level fun and intriguing.
• Proficient understanding of colour theory, and be able to create balanced & appealing colour palettes.
• Have excellent modelling and texturing abilities.
• Ability to communicate on a wide range of issues and work well in a team spanning artists, programmers, and designers;
• Have the ability to teach and to be taught.
• Become the project’s point of contact for environmental art with respect to aesthetics, technical knowledge, pipeline, and scheduling.
• Help to maintain the vision of the project.
• Work with others to outline processes, limitations and schedules for the project.
• Take responsibility for the above processes, limitations and schedules for the length of the project.
• Communicate deadlines and difficulties of your team to your art director.
• Test and proactively troubleshoot areas that are not working in the game engine and help to fix them.
• Be forward thinking and anticipate needs of your level design team.
• Initiate critique of the environment work for the project.
• Be meticulous and organized in the approach to the tasks, files and storage of the material, and help your team to be the same.
• Be enthusiastic and expect to take on challenges.
• Maintain the pacing of deliverables for your team.
• Document procedures and pipelines
Person Requirements:
• Minimum of at least 1 full next gen game development cycle as Lead Environment artist
• Recruitment/interviewing experience
• Experience using Crytek game engine an advantage
• Platform animation i.e. PlayStation3, Xbox360
• Excellent understanding of production procedures and software employed in the team
• Good interpersonal skills
• Good motivational skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication
• Able to manage, plan and organise time
• Ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines at all levels
• Ability to manage the demands of numerous people and tasks
• Ability to be responsible for taking decisions
• Team leadership qualities and a team player
• Good task scheduling skills, able to assign work and monitor progress
• Willing to work additional hours to meet the needs of the role
