Roll Overview:
The City Artist is responsible for the layout, appearance and design of the in-game city environments. All artwork must be completed to the required standard, style and guidelines set out by the Art Director, the City Art Lead and the Design Team. The City Artist will report directly to the City Art Lead.
Requirements
Candidates are required to demonstrate strong artistic and creative skills in the areas of modelling and layout of in-game assets. Proven aesthetic and technical skills are expected, as well as a good knowledge of 3DS Max and Photoshop. Experience in level design and/or level editing for the purposes of creating in-game environments is highly advantageous. Initiative, problem-solving and good communications skills are required. He/She needs to work within the guidelines and restrictions imposed by the game design, platform(s), programmers and City Art Lead. He/She must be pro-active in the solving of artistic and technical problems, highly motivated and work well within a team.
Responsibilities
• The City Artist is responsible for the creation of in-game city art which must work within the game design both technically and aesthetically and with all other components of the game.
• He/she is required to produce environments according to the creative direction’s, art direction’s and game design’s intentions.
• Effectively use design documents and guidelines to produce environments that support gameplay aims.
• Research, layout and model city art assets, delivered on schedule.
• Assist in the estimation of work tasks.
• Participate in group critiquing of own work and the work of others.
• The ability to give as well as take constructive criticism.
• He/She is expected to learn and use new software as determined by the project requirements.
Desirable Skills
Candidates are expected to be a good communicator with enthusiasm for and commitment to producing high quality art work and level designs. The role requires close communication with the other City Artists, the City Art Lead, the Art Director, the Technical Art Lead, the Tools Team and Design Team.
He/She will need to be organised and self-motivated.
